Aviously

Because, aviously…

Over the weekend Netflix released the prequel to the 2001 film Wet Hot American Summer, with a show about the first day of camp.

Lots of cameos (Weird Al, Joh Hamm) and a full cast of returning characters (Elizabeth Banks, Paul Rudd, etc.) lead this show as a hilarious mix of stupid humor. Yet with the introduction of new characters, the show still works with the movie, as they are seamlessly written into the story line.

And don’t let the 30 and 40 year-old actors fool you, as Lindsay (Banks) says at one point:

I know I’m 24, but I could pass for a teenager with the right clothes.

While they are all playing teens, it makes it even more enjoyable to see Bradley Cooper and Amy Poehler act as teenagers and perform dialogue like they are still 16.

And thanks to a GQ article I now know that the awesome soundtrack is Jane by Jefferson Starship (from 1979), which works nicely for this.

This show is a solid 8 out of 10.
