Aviously

Because, aviously…

Amazon released a new version of their Amazon Fire HD 8 a few weeks ago, and at $90 it is by far the best-valued tablet on the market.

At 1.5X the speed of the last version, 2X the storage and up to 12 hours of battery life. It has an HD display (with 189/ppi) and stereo speakers (which the $50 tablets don’t have) as well as front and rear cameras.

Soon they will be providing a software upgrade that will bring Amazon’s Alexa to the tablet, allowing quick access to entertainment/books/weather/etc. Add in On Deck and a basic Android based system, and it’s a decent device.

Some features of regular Android are missing (the Silent mode isn’t as good), and with only the Amazon Appstore to sort through you won’t have any of the Google Apps.

But if you need something to watch your streaming sources on (Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, HBO Go, etc.) or to read books/newspapers/magazines on, or just to play music on, this is the <$100 device that you have been looking for.
