Last Weekend of Toll Booths?

Tired of stopping at the toll booths as you enter/exit the Hugh L. Carey (Brooklyn Battery) Tunnel?
What about having to slow down and wait in line, just to let your EZ-Pass register?
Or the worst case: Getting stuck on an EZ-Pass line because someone got on it without having one.

This weekend marks the end of toll booths at the Hugh L Carey, and by the end of 2017 we will see them gone across the five boroughs.

Cashless Tolls will begin on Wednesday, January 4th, allowing all drivers to drive straight through from the West Side Highway to the BQE.

Drivers with EZ-Pass will get charged as usual, while other drivers will get a bill in the mail within 30 days, based off of their license plates.

As for the toll booth attendants? They are said to be getting reassigned to help State Police enforce people who are trying to skip out on the new system (such as those with illegal reflectors over the plates, or carefully positioned tape).

Top Songs of 2016 – #SOTD

Here is my list of Top Songs of 2016.
Thanks to all those that played our guessing game, with the winner correctly identifying 9 songs!! I can safely say that most people had a lot of fun with it (and the notes that came out of it are cool).
The list is simple enough…the only restriction is that it needed to be released in 2016 and I generally won’t repeat an artist twice in the Top 10.

This year was a fairly poor year for music, with no Song of the Summer and a lot of terrible music put out, but we filled out our list of 10.

10. Dangerous Woman by Ariana Grande

Nothing to prove and
I’m bulletproof and
Know what I’m doing

9. This One’s For You by David Guetta feat. Zara Larsson

We’re in this together
Hear our hearts beat together
We stand strong together
We’re in this forever
This one’s for you

8. Closer by The Chainsmokers feat. Halsey

Hey, I was doing just fine before I met you
But I’m OK
Hey, you tell your friends it was nice to meet them
But I hope I never see them

7. Can’t Stop The Feeling by Justin Timberlake

Ooh, it’s something magical
It’s in the air, it’s in my blood, it’s rushing on
Don’t need no reason, don’t need control
I fly so high, no ceiling, when I’m in my zone

6. Something Wild by Lindsey Stirling feat. Andrew McMahon

You’ve got a big heart
The way you see the world
It got you this far
You might have some bruises
And a few of scars
But you know you’re gonna be okay

5. Perfect Illusion by Lady Gaga

My guessing game is strong
Way too real to be wrong
Caught up in your show
Yeah, at least now I know

4. i hate u, i love u by Gnash feat. Olivia O’Brien

Got attached to you
Friends can break your heart too,
And I’m always tired but never of you
If I pulled a you on you, you wouldn’t like that sh!t

3. Ain’t Your Mama by Jennifer Lopez

We used to be crazy in love
Can we go back to how it was?
When did you get too comfortable?
Cause I’m too good for that
Just remember that

2. Cheap Thrills by Sia

Baby I don’t need dollar bills to have fun tonight
(I love cheap thrills!)
I don’t need no money
As long as I can feel the beat

1. Just Like Fire by P!nk

Just like fire, burning up the way
If I can light the world up for just one day
Watch this madness, colorful charade
No one can be just like me any way
Just like magic, I’ll be flying free
I’mma disappear when they come for me
I kick that ceiling, what you gonna say?
No one can be just like me any way

Movie Trailers for 2017

Here are some movies that I am looking forward to in 2017, and there are some great choices out there (albeit mostly parts of larger storylines) (likely in order of my excitement):

Beauty and the Beast – March 17
Real life Beauty and the Beast, with Emma Watson as Belle, and also starring Ewan McGregor, Emma Thompson, and Dan Stevens. I can’t wait to be their guest.

Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 – May 5
Our favorite group of galactic superheroes is back, and of course they brought along Baby Groot!

Logan – March 3
Hugh Jackman + Wolverine = Have they steered us wrong in the past? What are the odds that this one isn’t fantastic? And the possibility that he may have a daughter/another clawed being may exist…

Spiderman Homecoming – July 7
The new kid showed off in Captain America: Civil War, and he looks to keep up a similar role while training under the wings of Iron Man.

Despicable Me 3 – June 30
Grucie is coming back, but more importantly: We get more minions. And Trey Parker as the evil villain.

Cars 3 – June 16
Honestly unsure how I feel about this. The previous movies in the series were good, but this teaser trailer leaves everything to the imagination (which I guess is the point of a teaser trailer?).

LEGO Batman – February 10
I’m a little torn on this one. On one hand, it seems a little cheesy…on the other hand, everything was awesome for the first movie in this series. The trailer looks interesting, but hopefully they don’t overstay their welcome.

Wonder Woman – June 2
I’m biased. I like Marvel > DC. I like realistic superheroes (ones that can be feasible with the right amount of money) over aliens. So I am not big on the Superman world, so Wonder Woman isn’t a huge draw for me…but the trailer is interesting?

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales – May 26
I have always liked Captain Jack Sparrow, but this movie looks stranger than ever….I guess time will tell!

~~Sorry fans. No Power Rangers on this list for me…I wasn’t into them as a kid, and I really don’t care that they are now making a new movie.~~

The Newseum is the Museum of News located in Washington D.C.

Located near the Smithsonian this museum houses the history of the News medium, from the early days of print, through radio, and now television and social media.

Newseum Quote

I particularly like the FBI Exhibit, which highlights some of their higher profile cases (such as the Unabomber, the Lindbergh baby, and of course 9/11) and the role the media played throughout them.

The seven-floor museum has artifacts from throughout history, including the antennae spire from the World Trade Center, a piece of the Berlin Wall and a news helicopter hanging from the lobby ceiling.

Newseum Berlin Wall

They also have a Journalist Memorial, showing pictures of all the journalists that have been lost in the field/on the job, whether from war or terrorist acts (such as WDBJ reporter Alison Parker and her cameraman Adam Ward).

The Museum also features a wall of newspaper covers, showing daily covers from every state and around the world. The exhibit is updated daily and is always fun to look through.
If you want to find any newspapers cover, you can check their online gallery HERE, and they have an archive as well, of popular dates throughout history, such as the death of famous people, terrorist acts and natural events.

The Newseum is open all year (minus Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years) from 9-5, and should be added to everyone’s tourist agenda.

G Board – The Google Keyboard

Google updated their keyboard this week, and seemingly (mostly) all for the better.

The Keyboard now features a search bar built right into it, meaning when you are messaging you can include searches right in, things like “weather”, “videos” or “sports scores”.

But the best part of this search feature: You can now search emoji and GIFs directly in the keyboard.
Looking for that plantain or spoon? Search it and up it pops.

Another cool feature is being able to have up to three keyboards loaded at once, and easily switch between languages.

Happy swiping!
