May Song of the Day #SOTD

Here are some Songs of the Day to put on loop this month, and for the first time, they are all BRAND NEW SONGS. All released within the last 10 weeks,

Happy listening 🙂

Symphony by Clean Bandit ft. Zara Larsson

I just wanna be part of your symphony
Will you hold me tight and not let go?
Like a love song on the radio
Will you hold me tight and not let go?

It Ain’t Me by Koga ft. Selena Gomez

Who’s gonna walk you
Through the dark side of the morning?
Who’s gonna rock you
When the sun won’t let you sleep?
Who’s waking up to drive you home
When you’re drunk and all alone?
It ain’t me

Stay by Zedd ft. Alessia Cara

All you have to do is stay a minute
Just take your time
The clock is ticking, so stay
All you have to do is wait a second
Your hands on mine
The clock is ticking, so stay

Something Just Like This by Coldplay and The Chainsmokers

But she said, where’d you wanna go?
How much you wanna risk?
I’m not looking for somebody
With some superhuman gifts
Some superhero
Some fairytale bliss
Just something I can turn to
Somebody I can kiss

Symphony by Clean Bandit ft. Zara Larsson has quickly become one of my favorite songs, and while the music video above is fantastic, it always makes me happy when you hear them perform it elsewhere, and still be able to nail those high notes, as Zara does here on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Spring SOTD

I generally make up my lists for Song of the Days and then go back to make sure I didn’t use any of these songs in the past.
Surprisingly, or not actually surprisingly, I have multiple repeats of artists, but different songs.

The Fighter – Keith Urban ft. Carrie Underwood

To heal all the pain that he put you through
It’s a love like you never knew
Just let me show you

Ciao Adios – Anne-Marie

If you’re giving her all of your money and time
I’m not gonna sit here wasting mine on you, yeah, you
Ciao adios, I’m done

Love The Way You Lie – Eminem ft. Rihanna

I can’t tell you what it really is
I can only tell you what it feels like
And right now there’s a steel knife in my windpipe
I can’t breathe but I still fight while I can fight

I Miss The Misery – Halestorm

I’ve tried but I just can’t take it
I’d rather fight than just fake it (cause I like it rough)
You know that I’ve had enough
I dare ya to call my bluff
Can’t take to much of a good thing
I’m tellin you!

February Songs of the Day

Here are three songs I’ve been hooked on lately:

Rockabye – Clean Bandit ft. Sean Paul & Anne-Marie

So, rockabye baby, rockabye
I’m gonna rock you
Rockabye baby, don’t you cry
Somebody’s got you
Rockabye baby, rockabye
I’m gonna rock you
Rockabye baby, don’t you cry
Rockabye, no

This song has been on repeat for a few days, and the former “Alarm” singer really rocks the lyrics in this one.

Dirty Laundry – Carrie Underwood

Now I’ma have to hang you out to dry, dry, dry
Clothespin all your secrets to the line, line, line
Leave ’em blowing in the wind, just say goodbye to you

80s Mercedes – Maren Morris

Feel like a hard-to-get starlet when I’m driving
Turning every head h*ll I ain’t even trying

Top Songs of 2016 – #SOTD

Here is my list of Top Songs of 2016.
Thanks to all those that played our guessing game, with the winner correctly identifying 9 songs!! I can safely say that most people had a lot of fun with it (and the notes that came out of it are cool).
The list is simple enough…the only restriction is that it needed to be released in 2016 and I generally won’t repeat an artist twice in the Top 10.

This year was a fairly poor year for music, with no Song of the Summer and a lot of terrible music put out, but we filled out our list of 10.

10. Dangerous Woman by Ariana Grande

Nothing to prove and
I’m bulletproof and
Know what I’m doing

9. This One’s For You by David Guetta feat. Zara Larsson

We’re in this together
Hear our hearts beat together
We stand strong together
We’re in this forever
This one’s for you

8. Closer by The Chainsmokers feat. Halsey

Hey, I was doing just fine before I met you
But I’m OK
Hey, you tell your friends it was nice to meet them
But I hope I never see them

7. Can’t Stop The Feeling by Justin Timberlake

Ooh, it’s something magical
It’s in the air, it’s in my blood, it’s rushing on
Don’t need no reason, don’t need control
I fly so high, no ceiling, when I’m in my zone

6. Something Wild by Lindsey Stirling feat. Andrew McMahon

You’ve got a big heart
The way you see the world
It got you this far
You might have some bruises
And a few of scars
But you know you’re gonna be okay

5. Perfect Illusion by Lady Gaga

My guessing game is strong
Way too real to be wrong
Caught up in your show
Yeah, at least now I know

4. i hate u, i love u by Gnash feat. Olivia O’Brien

Got attached to you
Friends can break your heart too,
And I’m always tired but never of you
If I pulled a you on you, you wouldn’t like that sh!t

3. Ain’t Your Mama by Jennifer Lopez

We used to be crazy in love
Can we go back to how it was?
When did you get too comfortable?
Cause I’m too good for that
Just remember that

2. Cheap Thrills by Sia

Baby I don’t need dollar bills to have fun tonight
(I love cheap thrills!)
I don’t need no money
As long as I can feel the beat

1. Just Like Fire by P!nk

Just like fire, burning up the way
If I can light the world up for just one day
Watch this madness, colorful charade
No one can be just like me any way
Just like magic, I’ll be flying free
I’mma disappear when they come for me
I kick that ceiling, what you gonna say?
No one can be just like me any way

2016 Song of the Year Amazon Gift Card(s) Giveaway!!! #SOTD

This years’ Song of the Year list is just about complete, and that means it’s time for our second annual #AvisTravels giveaway contest. This is the fourth year that I am doing the list (third on this site), and it always provides some fun (and arguments).

Complete the form below and submit a list of my Top 10 songs of the year.

The person who guesses the most correct songs will win a $10 Amazon Gift Card.
If the winner guesses all 10 songs correctly, in any order, they get a $25 Gift Card.
If all 10 songs are guessed correctly in order the prize goes up to $50!

And just like last year, if we get 10+ entrants (or 25+ entries) the Top 2 entries win!

I’ll give the same hint as I gave last year: Think how I think. Consider what music I like and what I’ve used in the past, and remember that in order to qualify the song MUST HAVE COME OUT IN 2016.

As the entrants from last year know, I am great at giving hints if you ask for them after your submissions, and last year all multiple entrants walked away with a gift card!

Disclosures: Multiple entries are allowed (up to 10, any remaining ones will be disqualified) and  in the event of a tie, monies will be split amongst the winners. Contest ends when Top Songs of 2015 post goes live!

Some SOTDs For Your Earworm Needs

It’s been a month or three since we’ve had a Song of the Day post, and while the race for the “Song of 2016” is nowhere close to being solved, as this year has been fairly dismal in terms “fresh good music”.

These songs aren’t necessarily new, or originals, but still good listenings!

Last time started with Green Day, and we’ll continue with another off of their new album!

Say Goodbye – Green Day

Violence on the rise
Like a bullet in the sky
Oh Lord have mercy on my soul
Kindred Spirits sing
For the sick and suffering (the suffering)
The city of damage control

Scars To Your Beautiful – Alessia Cara

An absolutely great music video:

But there’s a hope that’s waiting for you in the dark
You should know you’re beautiful just the way you are
And you don’t have to change a thing, the world could change its heart
No scars to your beautiful, we’re stars and we’re beautiful
Oh-oh, oh-oh
And you don’t have to change a thing, yhe world could change its heart
No scars to your beautiful, we’re stars and we’re beautiful

Here is a twinge of country, more on country music after the next edition of #AvisTravels.

Better Dig Two – The Band Perry

Here lies the girl whose only crutch
Was loving one man just a little too much
If you go before I do
I’m gonna tell the gravedigger that he better dig two

Some heavy-metal to wrap things up.

The Sound of Silence – Disturbed

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
‘Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp

Songs of the Day

A regular part of this site, my song of the day posts. Strangely Summer 2016 has yet to have a “Song of the Summer”, but that doesn’t stop me from finding needles in a haystack.

What’s that? New Green Day album? Yes, please. Here’s the first single.

Bang Bang – Green Day

I want to be a celebrity martyr
The leading man in my own private drama
The hero of the hour
Daddy’s little psycho and Mommy’s little soldier

Recently discovered Lindsey Stirling due to her single to headline Pete’s Dragon, but while listening to her works, I came across this gem, with Lzzy Hale from Halestorm

Lindsey’s new album Brave Enough drops tomorrow, August 19th.

Shatter Me – Lindsey Stirling ft. Lzzy Hale

Somebody shine a light
I’m frozen by the fear in me
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me
So cut me from the line
Dizzy, spinning endlessly
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me

I Hate U, I Love U – Gnash ft. Olivia O’Brien

You ever wonder what we could have been?
You said you wouldn’t and you did
Lie to me, lie with me, get your fix
Now all my drinks and all my feelings are all mixed
Always missing people that I shouldn’t be missing

Once In A While – Timeflies

From Brooklyn to New York, then off to the West
In Cali, no Khaled, but fuck, we the best
My stripes, stay American, lemme express
And I keep it as live as a Total Request

But once in a while, I catch myself
Once in a while, I ask myself
What am I doing?
Once in a while, I need your help
