Spring/Summer Movie Outlook

With May beginning this weekend, I figured I’d give a little look into what I’m looking forward to in the next few months (May-August).

May

May 6 – Captain America: Civil War – The next installment in the Marvel Franchise, and the beginning of the third and final phase, rolls out with Captain America taking on Iron Man over the fate of the Avengers and inhumans everywhere.

May 27 – Alice Through the Looking Glass – The sequel to Alice in Wonderland has Alice messing with Time. Also be sure to listen to P!nk’s soundtrack for this movie.

May 27 – X-Men: Apocalypse – The movie that will take all the attention away from Alice is the end of another X-Men trilogy, with Charles and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) leading the charge against Apocalypse.

June

June 3 – Popstar – Lonely Island, made famous through their SNL skits, (and featuring Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer) are putting together a movie in “fake documentary” style.

June 3 – TMNT: Out of the Shadows – Megan Fox and those crazy turtles are back for another out-of-sewer adventure.

June 17 – Finding Dory – Ellen DeGeneres is back as the title character this time, as forgetful Dory gets lost trying to find out where her family is.

July

July 1 – The BFG – The little known Roald Dahl book about a friendly giant who befriends a child and protects her from evil giants finally gets made into a movie under the direction of Steven Spielberg.

July 8 – Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates – Here is that annual summer bad movie, that is just so bad it may actually work. I think the title pretty much says what the movie is about, and as for the cast, Mike and Dave are played by: Zac Efron and Adam Devine. Their “wedding dates” are the the two people that made me add this movie to my list: Aubrey Plaza and Anna Kendrick.

July 29 – Bourne – Matt Damon makes his return to the Bourne series…Julia Stiles is in this movie…Alicia Vikander is in this movie…I feel like nothing more needs to be said…

July 29 – Bad Moms – Think Bridesmaids, now imagine them married with kids and going off on a crazy time. The main three “Moms”? Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn.

August

August 5 – Suicide Squad – The evil villains are thrown together to complete a top secret mission. If they try to escape or not complete their tasks, they will be put out of their misery via an injection that’s already within them. Starring: Will Smith, Jared Leto and Margot Robbie.

100 Days Until America Unites #Rio2016

There are times when all Americans come together as one, and root for #TeamUSA. And that time is now 100 days away, as the Rio Olympics draws nearer.

Berlin, 1936 – Jesse Owens destroys the Nazis
Mexico City, 1968 – Black Power
Muncih, 1972 – 7 Gold Medals for Mark Spitz
Lake Placid, 1980 – Miracle on Ice
Barcelona, 1992 – Dream Team
Athens, 2004 – Abby Wombach beats Brazil in OT
Beijing, 2008 – 8 Gold Medals for Michael Phelps
Sochi, 2014 – TJ Oshie dazzles in a Shootout

These were all just some examples of times when Americans came together to root for their stars to just kick the worlds backsides.

Olympic records shall be broken (in swimming at the least, and you can quote me on that), and Americans will all make sure to have “#TeamUSA” trending worldwide on Twitter.

A Tale of Two Teams

Let’s check in on two of the teams I follow, and see which one I’m prouder for. We’ll call them “Team A” and “Team B” for now.

Team A: Finished the 2015 Season 1st in Division and 1st in the League
Team B: Finished the 2015 Season 1st in Division and 6th in the League

Team A: In 2015 got eliminated in the 3rd round of the Playoffs
Team B: In 2015 got eliminated in the 1st round of the Playoffs

Team A: 73% of players returned for the 2016 season
Team B: 33% of players returned for the 2016 season
(Counting all players who played at least 12% of games in previous year)

Team A: Lost only 2 starters from 2015–>2016 seasons
Team B: Kept only 2 starters from 2015–>2016 seasons

Based on everything we know so far:
Team A: Should be ready to try again for a great run
Team B: Should be ready for a rebuilding year

So now let’s see how they actually did/doing in the 2016 year…

Team A: Finished the 2016 Season 3rd in Division and 9th in the League
Team B: Finished the 2016 Season 2nd in Division and 13th in the League

Team A: Has won no awards yet, and aren’t expected to win any
Team B: One player won the League award of “Most Improved Player”

Team A: Got eliminated in the first round of the Playoffs in 5 games
Team B: Is currently playing in the first round, and is tied 2-2 after 4 games

For those that haven’t figured it out yet, and are still reading this:
Team A is the New York Rangers
Team B is the Portland Trail Blazers

The Impact of Death – Prince Sales Edition

Nothing will spike an artists sales numbers faster than death.

Prince’s death yesterday is a prime example, and I am not trying to mock death or anything, merely pointing out the facts as they stand.

Checking the iTunes store this morning, and looking at the “Top Charts” this is what was found:

The Top 16 “Songs” were all Prince songs, led by ‘Purple Rain’, ‘Little Red Corvette’ and ‘When Doves Cry’
The Top 5 “Albums” were all Prince albums, led by ‘The Very Best of Prince’, ‘Purple Rain’ and ‘The Hits/The B-Sides’
Of the Top 28 albums, 19 of them were Prince albums
Even the Top Music Video was Prince (‘Black Sweat’)

And this isn’t a new phenomenon. We’ve seen this time and again, and not just in music, with the sales of Robin Williams movies shooting through the roof after the unexpected death.

I think that when an artists is known to be passing, the sales fluctuate higher, but at the death the sales don’t get as much attention as when it’s a shock to the system.

Honesty Really Is The Best Policy

Honesty really is the best policy.

When people get caught up in fraud and trickery it is easy to repeat that process over and over.
And the more you do it, the harder it is to remember what you did in your name or under some “storyline”.

I witnessed a few weeks ago instances of people forging signatures and misrepresenting information.
And throughout I just kept thinking “What’s the point?”.
It was all things that given an hour or two could’ve been done correctly…it was just easier for the people not to.

Plagiarism is the one that’s probably easiestly explained, especially amongst students, since not everyone can be interested in everything, making it difficult with some subjects.

Keep it truthful. Keep it straightforward. And everything will be so much simpler (and no lawsuits 😉 ).

Coney Island Live

Live music and events are returning to Coney Island.

The Coney Island Amphitheater is opening on the Boardwalk and is expecting a pretty solid lineup for their first year.

Full lineup and information can be found HERE.

Among this summer’s artists are Sting, The Beach Boys, O.A.R., Boston, Kool and the Gang, Don Henley, and Vanilla Ice.

Google Cardboard Review

I went ahead and bought my first Virtual Reality headset, in the form of the Google Cardboard.

For the price it costs…it’s worth every penny. And I wish I had a camera with me when I showed it off to people, because their reactions are priceless.

You put it on the first time, and expect to be let down, but it’s every bit as cool as it is advertised, and the growth potential is enormous.

So far I’ve ridden on roller coasters, swam in an aquarium, and explored the world with Google Maps.

This is a great toy, and a recommended gift for any techie that hasn’t tried it yet.

NYCFC vs Chicago Fire – Champions Club

Sunday I went to the NYCFC match vs. Chicago Fire at Yankee Stadium, and thanks to TiqIQ I had a seat upgrade to section 013.
These seats were amazing, and the only downside: They aren’t sloped enough.
For baseball that’s okay because no action is directly in front of you, and you can see the playing field. But with the goal directly in front of us, all people can see were the heads of the row in front of them.
Regardless, here is the view that greeted us before the match:

Among other great perks, these seats had a primary view for some great practice by the Chicago Fire goalkeepers:

Before the match started, the fans gave a welcoming cheer to NYCFC keeper Josh Saunders, and he responded accordingly:

When the game got underway, the fans next to us didn’t seem to grasp that Yankee Stadium didn’t just have baseball games…and that the signs on the seats for “BE ALERT FOR BATS AND/OR BALLS” was limited to just soccer balls for the night. I am not trying to make fun of them or anything…but you be the judge:

Yes, that’s a baseball mitt.

All-in-all it was a fun match, with amazing seats, and unfortunately ended in a 0-0 draw.

It’s time to play the Google Feud!

The ever popular “Family Feud” game has come to Google, and allows you to play “Google Feud” to try to guess the top autofills in multiple categories.

The categories are Culture, People, Names and Questions, and include questions like:

‘cursive is ____’
‘I think I’m a ____’
‘jesse ____’
‘does my boss ____’

Apparently it has been around for just over a year…but if I’ve never seen it, it’s all new to me!

Webbys 2016

Once again I am pushing The Webbys on everyone. And the reasoning is simple.

We’ve all created things online, be it a simple social media profile, a website like this, or some crazy video that we hoped would go viral.

But at the end of the day most people just want recognition. And The Webbys is a great way to get it. So if you give some, you might get some.

The Webbys are an annual international award “honoring excellence on the Internet”. From each category, of which there are over 100, two winners emerge from each. One selected by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences and the other is awarded by you and me.
You can vote now on their website, and relive some of the great achievements from this year or even discover fads and virals that you may have missed the first time around.
Voting can be found HERE.

I personally like rooting for the underdogs (Players Tribune > ESPN) or the more interesting ones.

Votes will be accepted for the next few weeks (next 16 days from when this was written)…there are currently over 180K votes, and that number is expected to grow dramatically over the next few weeks!
