Aviously

Because, aviously…

When I first started playing video games many years ago the discussions was always “Medal of Honor” or “Call of Duty”.

I was always favoring Call of Duty (CoD) because of the screen layouts, as well as the game play.

But with every series starting with WWII and the invading of Normandy on D-Day all games started to get repetitive. CoD finally branched out and after a few games of WWII went along to modern day moving to Afghanistan and other modern wars.

These games also branched into Vietnam and the Viet Cong as well as the Cold Wars.

And then they went futuristic. Drones, remote-controlled units, and all sorts of other “imagination” weapons being brought to life.

Now this is all well and good. But it turns these “Historical Warfare” games into “Science Fiction”. And science fiction games are ones that I avoid. I don’t do zombies, I don’t do “Terminators”, I don’t do “Halo”, I just don’t do those games. I don’t enjoy them.
One of those that people will fight for is “Halo”. But let’s be honest, if I shoot a guy in the head from two feet away, he should go down, at least injured. In Halo those shots will have zero effect, but snipe him in the leg from across the map and they are dead.

I want the old fashioned rifles back. I want WWI and WWII back. Or I may just have to go with Star Wars. (Yes, I know that that’s Sci-Fi, but it’s a legend!)

A lot of my posts have been about reviews. Whether it has been about TV Shows, Movies, or Books most of them seem to have positive reviews, rating in the 9’s.

Now this may seem odd, or like I over value everything, but really it’s the exact opposite.

If I don’t like something, I’m not going to finish it. Whether it’s a book or a TV show, if it isn’t worth my time and effort, then it won’t be put into it. And if I haven’t put the full effort into something then I am not going to rate it.

This blog as a whole gets an 8 out of 10, because let’s be honest, I have really lame posts sometimes.

Some people hide behind computers and say things they don’t mean. Other people will write things out that they wouldn’t have the guts to say in person. While even more people censor what some people see, and show others their true side.

With social media you have to choose which person people see. Your Tweets or Facebook posts are instantly out there for people to see and judge.

The simplest solution of course is: Always be yourself. Don’t say things you don’t mean or won’t stand behind. If you honestly stand behind everything you say and do, you’ll never have to apologize for anything, but rather will stand up for things you believe in.

Another mistake that people make is “Deleting a post” after it comes under fire.
The way I see it, all that does is make you look guilty and weak. If you posted it in a sane and sober mindset, then what’s the issue? Other people don’t like it? Well too bad for them. This is America and the first rule that our government made was:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

My main point is this: Don’t say things to someone in private that you wouldn’t stand up behind in public.

Oh and let’s just be clear: You have these freedoms on PUBLIC property. Go into a private space or someone else’s property, and they have a right to censor you as they see fit.
Yes, that includes this blog and comments on it, or anything else I write and choose to censor.

I recently read Paper Towns by John Green which is set to come out in theaters this July.
I chose this book after watching and reading The Fault In Our Stars and enjoying them both.

The story is about a missing girl (Margo Roth Spiegelman) and her friends following clues to try and figure out where she went.

She felt empty. She felt the unscaleable wall surrounding her.

While her life had seemed perfect, she shows the flaws in those around her as she pranks them on her last night in town with her childhood friend, and neighbor, Q (Quentin Jacobsen).

It is so hard to leave— until you leave. And then it is the easiest goddamned thing in the world.

From posters hanging on window shades to strange pin marks in the walls the clues are strange, and sometimes as deep as Walt Whitman poems, but Q won’t give up on finding love and a girlfriend.

““Forever is composed of nows,” she says. I have nothing to say to that; I am just chewing through it when Margo says, “Emily Dickinson. Like I said, I’m doing a lot of reading.”

And quite possibly the best quote from the book is:

I’m not saying that everything is survivable. Just that everything except the last thing is.

This book is a 9 out of 10.

Happy Earth Day 2015!

Let’s take today to focus on what we can do to help make the Earth a better place to live in. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and let’s try not to be breathing through smog by 2030  🙂

I am picky about when I send gifts to people.

Birthdays are a maybe, engagements are a no, weddings are a yes, and babies births are again a maybe.

Engagements are a no because there is very little you can give an engaged couple that they can use anyways before marriage. And when I get that invite to the wedding they’ll get a gift.

But with each situation comes a different form of “Thanks”. For a birthday present a simple “Thank you” message is good enough.

However, wedding gifts and the like needs a more formal “Thank you”. No Facebook messages saying “Thanks for the gift” in a halfhearted way. This especially applies when more money is spent on the gift.
They send a $15 gift, send them that “Thanks”, they spend 2X-3X-etc. more than that, the level of “Thanks” needs to multiply as well.

The time frame for each of these should be within 12 months. You may think people have forgotten about it…but if they spent money, they remember!

A few months ago I won a $350 gift card to a local toy store, and yesterday I went in to take a look around.

Among the things that caught my eye of potential purchases were Lego sets, although they didn’t have what I was looking for.
Lego makes an “Architecture” series that features Landmarks and Architectural Specimens.
A full list of what those include can be found HERE.

The other thing I looked at was their large selection of board games, many of which I may want, but at this point have no use for. This includes games like Ticket To Ride and Monopoly Deal.
For now I don’t have anyone to play any of these games with, so I’ll hold off until I do to make any decisions.

I ended up leaving without buying anything, after finding out my gift card doesn’t expire, and I’ll make my choices at a later date.

But I was wondering, what would you buy with a $350 gift card to a toy store (and no video games allowed!)?

Last night I went to the Rangers opening playoff game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, and let me tell you, the atmosphere in the Garden was electric.

While the level of stress and tension in the building came nowhere close to the Game 7 I attended last year against the Flyers, scoring just 28 seconds into the game gave the building life, that was built up before the game and never deflated.

I was very grateful for the opportunity to go last night, and enjoyed every minute of it!

One other difference from last year…I saw a lot less Pittsburgh fans then Flyers fans last year…or maybe they just aren’t as loud as those Broad Street Bullies.
