Aviously

Because, aviously…

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is the first JK Rowling spin-off movie, and also a screenplay book, similar to The Cursed Child.

The book and movie are both magically delicious, filled with all new magical creatures and seeing the wizarding geniuses of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp).

The tale is simple enough: Newt is coming to America to find a creature, as he tries to write his famous guide (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them). But when his bag gets switched with a no-maj’s (American muggles), some of his beasts escape, setting off a search across New York City in an effort to recover them.
All the while there is an unknown being wreaking havoc on the city, which the Magical Congress of the USA (MACUSA) is trying to get under control, whilst blaming Newt for the disturbances.

Redmayne is British and quirky, exactly like his character is supposed to be, while Katherine Waterston is his perfect counterpart to help him from within MACUSA.
Dan Fogler, Samantha Morton and Colin Farrell also star in this movie.

Both the book and movie are fantastic and get a 9 out of 10.

Yeah, that title is a mouthful, but it’s completely true.

If you have Verizon Wireless, and you have Verizon FiOS, you can now watch Unlimited TV on your phone.

For all standard Verizon Wireless customers (not counting pre-paid) you have always had the option of free data streaming within the go90 app.
The go90 app offered things such as Sports (La Liga and Serie A), Comedy, and Talk Shows.

But as of yesterday, the FiOS Mobile App has been added to the “Unlimited Streaming” category.
When in the FiOS app you can stream Live TV, watch your DVR, or even go On Demand, and as long as you are on the 4G LTE Network, none of it will count against your monthly data limits.

Happy Watching!

Making History is the latest Fox comedy, starring Adam Pally (Happy Endings, Mindy Project), Yassir Lester, and Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl).

Taking place in current time, High School maintenance worker Dan (Pally) has a magical time traveling sleeping bag, in which he goes back in time to the 1700s and his girlfriend, Deborah Revere (Paul’s daughter) (Meester).
But when his actions in the past affect current times, he needs help from History Teacher Chris (Lester) to make things right again.

The past smells like poop because there is doody everywhere.

They combine modern humor with historical fiction. For example, sitting in a 1770s bar with Sam Adams and he offers Chris a drink of his finest ale…after taking a sip he is informed that he really drank from the piss pail.

A very fun show, with unlimited potential (thanks to the past), it gets a MUST WATCH PILOT and a 9 out of 10.

I’ve talked in the past about going at it alone, whether it’s on vacation or to sporting events.
Sure I’d rather go with people, but sometimes you just want to go to a game that night, and not worry about finding someone to go with.

Well, the New York Rangers are trying to help those looking for last minute and single tickets with their new “All For One” program.

The idea is simple: A few hours before a game they’ll send you a link to buy a single ticket for that night’s game.
Prices are usually $70 for upper levels and $95 for lower levels.

These tickets are from their remaining inventory, and only allow you to buy a single seat within the app.

I am certain to use this app the next time I’m thinking of going to a game…hope to see you there!

It starts off super (Doctor) strange indeed, but the story is made clear(er) in short order.

The newest Marvel installation stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tilda Swinton and Benedict Wong (of Marco Polo, Khan fame).

Clearer, yes…but totally weird. As gravity is reversed, houses turned sideways, bricks turning into gears, all this whilst holes and portals are being opened and shut on the streets of London, New York and Hong Kong.

The Doctor (Cumberbatch) himself is full of musical knowledge and a well to do neurosurgeon, but a horrific car accident leaves him deformed and unable to conduct the procedures that made him famous. The only one who would have been good enough to fix him, was himself…and it’s too late for that, even with out of body experiences.

So he heads to Kathmandu in search of the rumored Kamar-Taj that may be able to help him regain his original self.

With the help of Mordo (Ejiofor) and The Ancient One (Swinton) he overcomes the thought process that he can’t be put back together and uses his spirit to heal himself.
Harnessing energy from other dimensions of the multiverse, he learns to create magic and figure out how to make life worth living again…with a little help from a Levitation Cloak.

Dormammu, I’ve come to bargain.

McAdams plays the Doctor’s love interests and Wong is the ancient libraries keeper, and he plays a subtle comedic relief.

It’s a Marvel action movie mixed with just the right amount of comedy, and gets an 8.5 out of 10.

NYCFC kicks off their third season on Sunday, following a season in which they finished second in the Eastern Conference, and had an off-season which saw the departure of Frank Lampard and (finally) Mix Diskerud.

But with a new season comes new promise, as 5’3″ Maxi Moralez takes Lampard’s DP slot, Sean Johnson takes up the role of keeper (with Eirik Johansen still fighting for the job), and a bunch of new kids trying to make a splash (including 16-year-old James Sands.

Also with a new season comes more opportunities to go to games! And while my previous two years posts resulted in zero sales, I’m throwing it out there again.

Tuesday night, with a big thanks to EW, I went to Madison Square Garden to watch the Rangers, as they got thrashed by the Washington Capitals.

My seats were just a few rows behind the Rangers protected goal (for two periods) and it gave a great view of the game, watching Henrik Lundqvist make amazing saves, and as superstar Alex Ovechkin separated Jesper Fast’s shoulder.

Lundqvist - Rangers vs Capitals 2-28-17 Ovechkin - Rangers vs Capitals 2-28-17

The best part of any Rangers game is when they score, and although this goal was later overturned, it was great to be in the thick of it for the post-goal song/chant!

With my crazy early work hours, it is tough for me to get out to night-time sporting events, so I enjoyed it even more, both being able to watch a full Rangers game and for being able to be there for it.

It’s been 20+ years since this team has had a decent PowerPlay, and it showed as the team struggled to set up in the zone time after time.
On the flip side, the Caps were able to park themselves in the zone and set up numerous shooting attempts on the Rangers Penalty Kill.
Besides for that, the team was literally falling all over the ice, and the injuries plaguing the team may keep them from making a Cup run this year.

During Sunday’s Daytona 500 I had to step away from the TV for a bit, so I decided to download and use the NASCAR mobile app…and I wasn’t disappointed.

The app is loaded with all sorts of cool features including:

  • Race Call – You can listen to the play-by-play and color commentary from NASCAR radio. I can’t even begin to understand how it works.
Think about your regular NHL/NBA/NFL/MLB broadcast, where two or three people are standing side-by-side and pass along conversation back and forth.
Here, it is multiple people in different locations around the track giving play-by-play of 40+ different teams at once, and handing off flawlessly, without using names on air (“tossing to one another”).
It was truly something great to hear, and I plan to tune in again, possibly while watching the TV broadcast (although listening to Jeff Gordon give commentary is fantastic).
  • Car Audio – Tune in to any cars audio and hear the conversation between the crew and driver.
  • Sky Cam/Battle Cam – See the overall view from the race track, or the switched feed of racers battling for key positions.
  • Driver Cams – Certain drivers are highlighted and you can easily switch between their in-car cams.
  • “Crew Chief Mode” – This is the inside view of car specifics. You can see as the driver applies pressure to the throttle/break, their fastest speed/laps, as well as their current position.

Looking around NYC just about every car has something in common: They have an E-Z Pass tag stuck to the windshield.

The NorthEast part of North America, including 16 States and Ontario, Canada, have E-Z Pass for their toll collection system.
For those unfamiliar, you just drive through the toll booth, and the scanners read your Pass ID and takes the money off your account.

But is it time to get rid of clunky E-Z Pass in your windshield, and have a Nationwide electronic tag added to every vehicle?

Sure I know some people that refuse E-Z Pass as they don’t like being tracked…but tracking is the way of the future, as autonomous cars come to popularity, and as more states start moving away from the gas taxes.

With cars having identifiers of some sort in them, toll booths would become a thing of the past as scanners take their place.

The government would also like this because it’d help stop “toll hoppers” who cover parts of their license plates so the plate readers (which send you bills by mail if you don’t have E-Z Pass) can’t properly identify them, and it would allow police officers to quickly scan a car and have ticket info fill itself in, resulting in fewer tickets thrown out for “misinformation”.

Separately I think there should be some sort of chip in drivers licenses, and a slot in the car where a driver identifies himself by inserting the card…this would stop drivers with expired licenses from getting behind the wheel, and again for cops to easily ID drivers…but all this is for a different thought process…

Sausage Party has come to Netflix, and for all you dirty minded humorist out there…enjoy the party.

With a hilarious opening number from food talking about how good things are in the outside world once they are bought, this movie is awesome from the start, as the Gods grant them to an amazing life outside the store…until the secrets of the outside world are revealed.

It’s dirty, it’s racist, and it’s everything you’d expect from a movie with such a title. But despite its soft rating of R (it deserves worse), no one will regret watching this movie, as there is nothing out of taste (besides for spoiled foods).

Every sausage and bun innuendo you can think of is made. Bagels are the Jews, and the Armenian lavash is hoping to end up getting dipped in the finest of extra virgin olive oils.
Crackers drove the Native American firewater and Mr. Grits from their aisles, and politics gets involved too as “God hates figs” and the German sauerkraut wants to exterminate all the juice.
And let’s not forget the singing from a Meat Loaf.

I’ve also never seen a brutal and horrific killing scene as I did in this one, as the joys of it being a cartoon let them do as they please.

Seth Rogan, Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, James Franco, and Salma Hayek are just some of the big names that can be heard amongst the foods.

The storyline is eh, the humor is outstanding, and that’s why it ends with a 7.5 out of 10.
