Aviously

Because, aviously…

Everywhere you look these days in America a new disease/virus/illness is popping up.

In adults, it is now the Ebola scare, as another hospital worker in Dallas has been diagnosed with it.

And for kids, it’s the Enterovirus D68, which while being annoying and dangerous, didn’t cause a death until last week in Michigan.

While there is no need with either of these for widespread panic, yet, caution should be taken where applicable.

The usual stuff is simple enough…wash your hands after the bathroom, or if you sneeze/cough into them, and don’t reach into a public bag of food with your hands, rather use a cup (thanks Sebastian for that tip).

And most importantly, if you contract any of these things…or anything else for that matter…just don’t give it to me 🙂

So I got one of my ex’s engaged over the weekend.

Let me explain that statement…they broke up last week, because she was scared of commitment…and then on Sunday I talked her into going back, and now they are engaged.

Aren’t I just a splendid fellow?

I really am happy for her, but at the same time, it just reminds me that another one bites the dust.

Yesterday I finished watching How I Met Your Mother for a second time, and when the story is all wrapped up, it leaves you wondering…for example: Will I have to wait nine years total before my story comes full circle?

*Sigh*

I’ve been mostly quiet so far this year about the Cowboys, as I keep waiting for the bubble to burst.

But after yesterday’s win over the defending Super Bowl Champion’s, the Seattle Seahawks, it is safe to say that they looked good yesterday. The defense stepped up when they had to, and the offense just pounds through every time they seem out of it.

So I figured I’d throw a few stats out there, since all the people (particularly New York Giants fans in prep for the upcoming game) will be hating on them…and it’s hard to argue with cold hard facts!

  • Tony Romo has 26 game-winning drives since 2006. The most in the league in that time.
  • DeMarco Murray has 785 rushing yards on the season, most in the league. The closest, is 243 yards less.\
  • DeMarco Murray has 6-straight 100+ yard rushing games to start the season, tying Jim Brown’s 1958 record.
  • Dan Bailey hit a 56 yard FG yesterday, a career long.
  • Dan Bailey is currently the most accurate kicker in league history.
  • Dallas is 5-1, tied for their best start since 1996.

I told myself I would post every day, and I almost forgot today…And with no free time left today, I am left doing a fluff piece instead of a content piece.

I ordered a new Moto X (2nd Gen) today, so look for that review in a few weeks when I get it.

I played NHL 15 online against my nephew last night for the first time, so that was awesome.

And I just want to thank the few people that do read this, and how somehow I’m over 120 posts and have been going strong for over 5 months now.

With the season opening tomorrow night around the league, and Thursday night for the Rangers against the Blues, I figured now would be a good time to put up a brief preview for this season.

The year brings a new Captain as Ryan McDonagh was named yesterday, along with 4 Alternates (Marc Staal, Derek Stepan, Dan Girardi and Marin St. Louis).

Rosters and lines look something like this (just guesstimates, and subject to change):

Nash – St Louis – Duclair
Kreider – Brassard – Zuccarello
Hagelin – Miller – Fast
Glass – Moore – Hayes

Girardi – McDonagh
Staal – Boyle
Moore – Klein

Lundqvist – Talbot

The Rangers will be working on some contract negotiations this year.
Expect them to resign Staal before January 1 or else he will end up traded (possibly even to Carolina).
Others that need to be resigned include Mats Zuccarello, Carl Hagelin, Stepan, J.T. Miller, Jesper Fast and Cam Talbot.

Twice a year Jews are forbidden from wearing leather shoes, on the fast days of “Ninth of Av” and “Yom Kippur”.

It used to actually be a struggle, trying to find good shoes to wear, something that could get wet if it’s raining, and comfortable to stand in all day, and still not contain any leather.

And every year we’d dig around (wherever you are storing your shoes) and pull out the pair for its biannual usage.

But then about 10+ years ago Crocs popped onto the scene, and suddenly finding proper footwear became a lot easier.

While often mocked at first, I can safely say that over 60% of the people I saw (men, women and children) were wearing them.

And sure, the holes in the sides may make it more annoying to wear in the rain, but I know I came up with some interesting ways of keeping my feet dry, and I’m sure others did as well.

I saved this a few days, so that people can’t scream “Spoiler Alert” at me, but it’s time to discuss one of the best episodes of Television this year.

The Season 13 Premiere of Family Guy featured a trip to Springfield, and a long awaited mashup with The Simpsons, in a hilarious hour of television.

When Peter becomes a cartoonist, and subsequently run out of town by women’s groups over his cartoons, the family goes on a trip, with their car getting stolen outside of Springfield.

With jokes about carrying other Fox Shows (Bob’s Burgers) and show’s trying and failing to make it on their own (Cleveland Show) and agreeing to stay an hour apart, with some other crap in between, they held no punches back.

Literally.

The famous Peter vs. The Chicken fights was brought to a whole new level as Peter and Homer face off in an epic 7+ minute, multi-universe (Hello Roger) fight, that leaves them talking about being “a Family Guy and a The Simpsons”. During this fight they leave nothing out, even the 24 Emmy’s being thrown by Homer, with Peter complaining “That’s not fair, I got none of them”.

And let’s not forget about Stewie + Bart dark humor (let’s not talk about that controversial rape joke) as well as “I took Apu” jokes. But when all that is over, Stewie is left complaining that “Bart sounded like a girl”.

The episode included tons of long running jokes (Oh Yeah!) and character comparisons (ex. Mort vs. Krusty), and even if you’re only a fan of one of the two shows (like I am), you are guaranteed to find this episode funny.

And one final word for those who actually saw the show, and want a good laugh: Gassensexxen.

When I am around a tray of chicken pieces (generally happens with chicken nuggets or sesame chicken) there are times that I may reach in and take a piece from the edge, with my fingers, being careful to only touch my piece.

At times this has drawn me looks or people saying “You should use a fork”. But then I’ve noticed a growing trend that is even more disgusting by whatever it is people think I’m doing.

SUSHI

People reach in there with their hands, “tear off” a piece from the platter (touching the one next to theirs as they do), dip that piece into some sauce, and pop it into their mouth, and then go for another piece.

This is worse than anything I’ve ever done with food picking.

Your filthy hands reach into a tray and touch other peoples foods and then they return the favor when they take their piece.

So thanks to those who keep the sanitary and use a fork with sushi.

And thanks to those that don’t eat sushi, and help prevent the spread of Ebola.

Two months of this, and I am my main reader of it, so I’ll keep it going 🙂
